Auto Insurance
Your auto insurance is really a package of seven primary coverages, which together
make up a standard auto policy. Each of these coverages has its own separate
premium. There also are other add-on coverages, such as GEICO Multi-Risk Physical
Damage Insurance and Emergency Road Service protection, available for additional
premium costs.
Bodily injury liability
This provides protection if you injure or kill someone while operating your car. This is
coverage you want to keep at a consistent level, even as your car gets older and
declines in value. In the event of a serious accident, you want enough insurance
(higher limits) to protect assets that may become subject to a lawsuit.
Medical payments, no-fault or personal injury insurance
This usually pays for the medical expenses of the driver and passengers in your car.
Uninsured motorists protection
This will pay for your injuries caused by an uninsured driver or, in some states, a
hit-and-run driver, in a crash that is not your fault. Given the number of uninsured
motorists driving on our highways today, this is very important coverage to have, even
in states with no-fault insurance.
Comprehensive physical damage insurance
This coverage will pay for damage to your car if it is stolen, or damaged by flood, fire,
animals, or other covered perils.
Collision insurance
This pays for damage to your car when your car hits, or is hit by, another object.
GEICO offers a number of deductibles. You can opt for a higher deductible in order to
lower your premium.
Property damage liability
This provides you with protection if your car damages someone's property, and it
also provides you with legal defense.
Rental car reimbursement
This coverage helps pay the cost of renting alternate transportation if your auto is
disabled in an accident for more than 24 hours.

Outstanding Service
Ever since our beginning, the GEICO name has been synonymous with outstanding
service. Instead of using agents, we've marketed directly to
customers. At first, those customers were exclusively government
workers. In 1958, the company began serving other customers as well.
In 1980, GEICO became the first insurer to provide 24-hour customer
service. Each week, over 10,000 drivers switch to GEICO Direct©. They
come for the savings, but they stay for the
service. GEICO Direct© provides nationwide service and ranks as the
sixth-largest private passenger auto insurance company in the United
States. As of October 2000, we insured more than 4.7 million
policyholders and 7.3 million autos. We employ more than 18,500
associates at our corporate headquarters and regional
service centers. GEICO in the Community As a business within a community, GEICO
Direct© recognizes its responsibilities to the community. Besides adding to the community good as an employer and a taxpayer, GEICO contributes to support many charitable organizations and helps to improve the community and its residents and to make our streets and vehicles safer for everyone. Encouraged by GEICO, many of its more than 18,000 associates also support charitable organizations and projects with their time, efforts and donations. The following provides a sample of some charitable undertakings by GEICO and its associates.
United Way United Way receives the largest contribution from GEICO and its associates. In 2000, GEICO associates and the company contributed more than $1.8 million to local United Way organizations through payroll deductions and matching company contributions. Associates also held an assortment of other fund-raising activities to support United Way.
Highway Safety Support As an auto insurer, GEICO recognizes the need to reduce traffic deaths and injuries. It supports the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the research arm of the insurance industry, and contributes to groups supporting highway safety. These include Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, First Nights, Safe Kids Foundation and various other programs. Community Participation Associates in each of GEICO's business locations work through the GEICO Corporate Community Citizens (GCCC) to contribute to, and participate in, community activities. More than 2,000 associates volunteer an average of five hours a week helping organizations such as Special Olympics, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Boy and Girl Scouts and Habitat for Humanity. They also mentor students, serve and deliver food to those in need, make recordings for the blind and dyslexic, work in hospitals and support their community fire and rescue squads.
Beyond the associate community involvement, GEICO provides financial support to community programs. These have included such organizations as Children's Hospital, Georgia Special Olympics and the Adopt-a-School Program.
GEICO recognizes one associate annually with the GEICO Volunteer Service Award and the John Thorne GCCC Volunteer Award, which includes monetary awards to the organization in which the award winners volunteer. Matching Gift Program GEICO supports the charitable donations of its associates by matching their contributions (up to $500) and their donations to colleges and universities (up to $2,500).
