Honda Civic

The 2008 Honda Civic - Setting the Standard for Compact Cars

The 2008 Honda Civic is an all-around performer. This critically acclaimed compact has developed a reputation for reliability, performance, and value. What has changed over the years are its looks - once described as "nerdy", the 2008 Honda Civic gets high marks for styling, inside and out. Combined with the trademark efficiency of various Honda powerplants, the 2008 Civic provides a great ride for less money spent at the pumps.

Together with other winning creations such as the Accord and Lexus, as well as an incredible range of engines for virtually everything on and off the road, the Honda contributes great bloodlines to the Civic. In its sixtieth year, Honda continues to provide top line products throughout the world.

Civic Trims to Fit Every Style and Budget

The 2008 Honda Civic is available as a sedan or coupe, and each offers five traditional trim levels: DX, LX, EX, EX-L and Si. The DX is targeted at the budget-conscious buyer, and comes with power windows, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and height-adjustable driver seat. The LX model gives you that plus 16-inch steel wheels, air-conditioning, keyless entry, full power accessories, cruise control and four speaker audio. The EX adds 16-inch alloy wheels, six-speaker audio with steering wheel controls, sunroof, and 60/40-split rear seatback with armrest. The Civic EX-L moves you up to heated front seats and a new option for leather upholstery. The Civic Si has sports appeal with the EX model's features, plus a high-output engine, stronger suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, racy interior trim, and high grade audio.

Specialized Civic models include the Hybrid Civic sedan, a trim similar to the EX but with added automatic climate control and optional navigation; the GX (natural gas powered engine), which is similar in trim to the LX; and the limited edition Mugen Si sedan, which builds on the Si concept with a lower, highly tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels, souped-up exhaust, and a very sporty exterior body kit.

Civic's Unique Powerplant Selection

Civic DX, LX and EX models are powered by a 1.8 liter, four cylinder engine (140 hp). The front wheel drive Civic comes with a standard five speed manual transmission (26 mpg city /34 mpg highway) or an optional five speed automatic (24 mpg city /36 mpg highway). The Civic Si and Mugen Si give you an upgrade to a 2.0 liter engine (197 hp; 21 mpg city / 29 mpg highway) and six speed manual transmission with limited-slip front differential. The 1.8 liter GX (113 hp; 24 mpg city /36 mpg highway) uses compressed natural gas and has a limited 200 mile range, but Honda makes up for this with its Phill device that allows refueling from your own garage.

The Civic Hybrid's powertrain combines a 1.3 liter (110 hp, 123 lb-ft of torque) gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine with an electric motor (20 hp, 76 lb-ft of torque) for better fuel economy and lower emissions. Making the most of Honda's Integrated Motor Assist technology and VTEC power, the Civic Hybrid delivers amazing 40 mpg city / 45 mpg fuel consumption estimates.

Civic's Comfort and Safety

The Civic's front seats provide plenty of legroom, support, and comfort. Available split rear seatback with armrest also allows rear passengers to relax. Civic sedans give you 12 cubic feet of cargo room; the coupe Si has 11.5 cubic feet; and the Hybrid and GX have 10 and 6 respectively due to powertrain equipment.

Standard Civic safety features include front seat side airbags, full length side curtain airbags and active front seat head restraints. Also standard is Honda's four-channel anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake Distribution, as well as a tire pressure monitoring system. Stability control comes standard only for the Si model.
Government crash testing gave Honda traditionally high marks - the 2008 Honda Civic earned a perfect five stars for frontal impact protection, four stars for front passenger protection, and five stars for side-impact rear passenger protection.
