The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu - Great Redesign Gets All-Around Approval

Chevrolet has completely redesigned its 2008 Malibu, and the results are impressive. Roomy, powerful, comfortable, good handling and high quality can all describe this midsize sedan. In addition to the trademark power of the 2.4 or 3.6 liter Chevrolet engines, the Chevrolet Malibu also carries a hybrid option. Combined with one of the longest frames in its class, the Chevy Malibu's interior and exterior design give you a high-class ride.
Chevy's Malibu is a strong player produced by the top selling brand of General Motors, which is the world's largest car manufacturer. Chevrolet produces more kinds of vehicles than any other GM division, ranging from subcompact cars to commercial trucks. Buying a Chevy Malibu buys you some of the talent that went into the world's most extensive car lineup.

Malibu Trims and Options

The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu comes in four trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT and LTZ. The LS is standard with 16-inch steel wheels, power accessories including keyless entry, air-conditioning, satellite radio, OnStar, and six speaker audio. The 1LT moves you up to 17-inch alloy wheels and steering mounted audio controls. The 2LT adds a range of upgraded features such as polished wheels, leather accents, power driver seat, heated front seats, power-adjustable pedals, and remote engine start. The final word is the deluxe LTZ, with 18-inch alloy wheels, special grille inserts, fog lamps and LED taillights, eight speaker audio with CD changer, leather seating and power front seats. Options include upgraded interior and exterior styling (for less expensive trims), rear sunshade, and rear power outlet.

The Malibu Motor

Malibu's LS, 1LT, and 2LT trims come standard with a 2.4-liter four cylinder engine that produces 169 hp for the front wheels. The Malibu’s four-speed automatic transmission earns EPA ratings of 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway. Malibu's 3.6 liter V6 engine, which is standard on the LTZ and an option for the 2LT, produces 252 hp with a manual shift control, six-speed automatic. The V6 gets a 17 mpg city/26 mpg highway rating. Finally, eco-conscious owners can opt for the Malibu Hybrid, delivered with a 2.4 liter Ecotec four cylinder engine and 36 volt electric motor, which produces 164 hp at 24 mpg city/ 34 mpg highway.

Comfort and Safety

The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu is the largest model yet, with a 112-inch wheelbase. Firm seats for long rides, highly adjustable driver seat, generous amounts of rear passenger room, and quiet ride even at speed make the Malibu a good trip companion.

All Malibu trims are equipped with standard four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, traction control, daytime running lights, and tire pressure monitor. The LT and LTZ versions add stability control. Standard impact protection includes dual-stage front air bags with front Passenger Sensing System, head-curtain side-impact air bags, and front-seat-mounted side-impact thorax air bags.

In tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu earned five star ratings for frontal and front side impact tests, and four star ratings for rear side impacts and rollover tests.
